Mark your calendars now for the Halloween Fall Festival on October 28, from 2:30-4:30 PM!

Principal’s Message

I want to thank all the parents who worked so hard in the Library this past week helping to make this year’s Book Fair a rousing success. Every time I was in the library, there were smiles galore from parents and children, with wonderful helping hands from the parent helpers. Remember, our children are the ones that come out ahead on this event. First, they have plenty of new books to read at home, and second, all the proceeds from the event are put right back into new book purchases for our library.

Fall Festival Planning

I noticed that the Fall Festival planning committee was busy this week getting ready for the Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 28 from 2:30-4:30. These folks do an amazing job putting on a first rate event for our families to enjoy. Just a reminder that this event is becoming more and more popular so make sure that you plan ahead and CARPOOL as the parking lot will be full.

Middle School News

Middle School parents of 6-8th graders should check their mailboxes as the first Interim Reports have been placed in your boxes. This is a computer generated listing of your middle schoolers’ grades in every assignment so far this year. Parents of 7th & 8th grade students can also access these Grade Reports on Edline using the information sheets that were put in your mailboxes this week, and 6th grade will be up and running with grade reports on Edline soon. The First Student Council meeting was held this past Tuesday, and one of the first items on the agenda was Free Dress Days. They are busy putting together a proposal for me, and as soon as we iron it out, they will publish the dates for Free Dress. Until then, every day is still a regular uniform day. (AAWWWWWW) Today was a First Friday Assembly day and it was our 8th graders’ turn to teach us all about “RESPECT”. The students did a great job and thanks to their homeroom teacher, Mr. Byrum for a job well done.

GO, RED-TAILED HAWKS!

Encinitas Blvd. Director Message

I hope everyone is holding up well under this rapidly changing weather. We are gearing up here at school for a few upcoming fall activities: On Saturday, October 15th is the ECDS PTO Harvest Dinner on the Patio at Firenze Trattoria. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to support the activities of the ECDS PTO. See flyer in your parent mailbox for details. On Monday October 17th and Tuesday October 18th, the Fire Department will be making their annual visit to the school for the children. This event is specifically for the children only (thank you for understanding).

Please be aware that this publication of the ECDS Weekly Connections Newsletter will become paperless after this week and will be emailed to you weekly. If you do not receive this email blast, please come see me in the office. Happy Fall!

— Joanna Safarik

Scholastic Book Fair

Ms. Marasco would like to thank all the families who shopped at the Book Fair this week. You purchased great books for your families, and you also contributed to the purchase of many new books for the Library and the teachers. We appreciate your support of our Library!

ECDS PTO “Hawk Tawk”

Planning is underway for the Halloween Fall Festival on 10/28. We’ll need lots of parent volunteers for many jobs - selling wristbands, decorating the school on Mon. 10/24, selling popcorn and drinks during the event, setup before the event, and cleanup afterwards. If you can volunteer for a timeslot, contact Jodi Queen. Parents in Grades 1-5 can also sign up in their classrooms to volunteer for a shift in their booth. We’re also planning to have a Haunted House in the Library for the first time, if we have enough Middle School students and parents volunteer to help. The Haunted House team will have work meetings on Friday Oct. 14 and Friday Oct. 21 from 5-8 PM, as well as setting up the Haunted House on the evening of Oct. 27. Contact Susan Bachand-Morone if you can help with the Haunted House.
