« 6th Grade Field Trip - Oceanview Mines »

The 6th Grade classes went on a Field Trip to Oceanview Gem Mining Company in Pala last week. They dug and sifted through mounds of dirt from the mine and found many different rocks and minerals that are native to the San Diego area, including tourmaline and lapidolite. Lapidolite is the predominant mineral that is mined by the Oceanview Gem Mining company, and it is used in batteries. This field trip enhances the 6th Grade’s Integrated Science curriculum, giving the students hand-on experience in understanding natural resources like lapidolite and how they are used in the world.
