« Middle School - Engineering Elective Class »

One of the Elective classes that 7th and 8th Grade students can choose to take in their 2nd semester is Physical Engineering, which is taught by Mr. Carmichael, ECDS Science Teacher. The students will build projects to solve practical engineering challenges, and each challenge will include math and writing exercises. Some of their upcoming projects include a solar cooker, weather balloons, and pasta bridges. In their first Engineering class this week, the students worked together to build an earthquake-proof building using paper, popsicle sticks, glue, and tape. After it was completed, they tested it to see if their building could withstand the earthquake machine, which was a reciprocating saw attached to a poster board. After their building was tested, the students realized that it was much more difficult to build an earthquake-proof building than they had expected.
