Weekly Connections 01/20/2012

Jan 20 / 2012

Congratulations to the ECDS Girls Soccer Team for their tied game with St. Joseph Academy yesterday, with a final score of 1-1. Go, Red-Tailed Hawks!

Check your mailboxes for the Fall edition of the ECDS Connections Newsletter, covering the events of October and November at both ECDS campuses. The newsletter has information about all the educational and fun activities that happened in every class, as well as lots of photos from each class and around the campus. ECDS was a busy place in October and November!

Principal’s Message

Thank you once again to the PTO for their very generous Teacher luncheon on Thursday. It means so much to the teachers to have one lunch a month where they can just sit, relax, and chat with their fellow teachers.

Spelling Bee

It is time for the 3rd Annual ECDS Spelling Bee. Every class will have their classroom spelling bee the week of Jan.27-Feb. 2. Two finalist from each classroom in grades 2-8 will participate in the all-school Spelling Bee on Thursday, Feb. 9 in the library. There will be three divisions this year. Division I will be the students from grades 2 & 3. Division II will be the students from grades 4 & 5, with Division III being the students from grades 6, 7, & 8. THe student from 7th and 8th grade that finishes highest will be the school representative to the San Diego County Spelling Bee in May. Last year’s school champion, Maddy Gardner, is back to defend her title, after finishing in a tie for 5th place at the county spelling bee last year. Words for the spelling bee will be taken from the grade level books for grades 2-5. The words for the school finals for grades 6, 7, & 8 will come from the list of words found on the national spelling bee websites at www.spellingbee.com and http://myspellit.com . Good Luck to everyone!

Thanks,
— Mr. Lehmunn

Encinitas Blvd. Director Message

I hope that everyone had a wonderful 3 day weekend. It has been quite brisk in the morning and afternoons this week. Please remember to bring weather appropriate clothing with your children to school for their spare change of clothes and sweaters and jackets. Our Lost and found is again overflowing. Come in to the office to see if you can find some of your lost belongings.

Early Re-enrollment

Another reminder that if you would like to re-enroll for the 2012-13 school year before our rates go up on Feb. 3, you will need to turn in your paperwork to the office before Feb. 3. We offer all currently enrolled families the option of keeping the 2011-12 rates through next year if you re-enroll before the due date. The classes are filling up quickly. If you have any questions or concerns regarding re-enrollment please do not hesitate to call the office. I will always be glad to answer any questions that you have.

Thanks,
— Ms. Safarik

Drivers for Field Trips & Sports Teams

If you will be driving for any of the school events, please come to the office well before the date of the event so that the office can make copies of your current driver’s license, car insurance and vehicle registration. We would like to avoid any last minute delays and have all the trips run smoothly. Thank you.

ECDS Cookbook

Due to many other activities going on at ECDS, we realized that we needed to allow more time for everyone to submit recipes for the ECDS Cookbook (click on the underlined link to see the revised flyer). You can now submit your recipes by February 16, and the cookbooks should be ready sometime in April or May so they will make great Mother’s Day gifts. We apologize for any confusion with the date changes, and we hope you’ll find your best recipes to submit for the Cookbook!

Rubio’s Dine-Out

Thanks to all the families who participated in the Rubio’s Dine-Out yesterday! The food was great, and we hope you had fun meeting friends from ECDS at Rubios. Your support makes our monthly Teacher Lunch possible, and our teachers truly appreciate it.

Valentine’s Day

We’re starting to plan our Valentine’s Day Cake Walk event, and we’re also planning to include some new Valentine’s Day activities for Middle School students this year. If you’re interested in helping plan the Valentine’s Day events or if you can help on the day of February 14, please contact Valentine’s Day event coordinators Betty Jo Billick or Susan Bachand-Morone.
