4th Grade – Graphing Valentine’s Heart Candy

Feb 18 / 2015

Ms. Reeves’ 4th Grade class found educational value in their Valentine’s Day heart candies last week. They sorted their Sweethearts candy hearts to determine which color Necco, the candy company that creates the candies, thinks is most appealing to their customers. Students charted the frequency that different colors occurred in their candy boxes on individual graphs, and then they used a large bar chart on the white board to tabulate the results for the entire classroom. The results showed that Yellow was the winner with 85 occurrences in 15 boxes of candy, followed by Pink, Orange, White, Green, and Purple in order of the number of occurrences.
