4th Grade – Mission Trails Park Field Trip – Kumeyaay People

Nov 12 / 2014

4th Grade students went on a field trip to the Mission Trails Regional Park last week for an educational presentation on the Kumeyaay people. The students went on a one-mile interpretive walk with a guide, where they learned about about the Kumeyaay uses of native plants and wildlife resources, cultural and social customs of the Kumeyaay, and their basic way of life. The guide also showed them a unique Kumeyaay dwelling site with a granite bedrock area that has depressions worn into the rock’s surface from hundreds of years of grinding acorns and other foods, and he demonstrated how to grind acorns in one of the rock’s depressions.
