Don’t forget – No School on this upcoming Monday, January 16 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday!

Tickets are still available for the 2 shows of “School House Rock Jr.” this weekend – Sat. at 6:00 pm, and Sun. at 2:00 pm. You can purchase tickets outside the office this afternoon, or at the door 45 minutes before the show. The show’s talented cast, including many ECDS students, is shown in the photo below. Ms. Colby and her cast have created a fabulous show, so don’t miss your final opportunity to see it this weekend!

Principal’s Message

Although every year is important at ECDS, this year is especially so because this is the year we will be visited by a four person team from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Accreditation by this association is very important to the future of the school and it also sends a message to the community at large that we are doing what we do very well and are moving in the right direction when it comes to the education of your children. For the past 18 months, the teachers, staff, students, and parents have all been busy writing our self-study report. That report is being finalized and will be sent to the accreditation team in the next week. In addition, I had a preliminary meeting with the head of that group this week and was able to finalize the plans and procedures that they will use when they visit us from March 4-7. During that time the team will be visiting all the classrooms, and will have meetings with both parents and students, as well as with the faculty and staff. As we lead up to that time, I will be sending information about the parent meeting as to its time and location.

Head Lice

I know that this is not a happy subject but the good news is that so far this school year we have had relatively few cases. I know that this is not the most enjoyable activity, but I just want to encourage parents to keep checking your children and continue to be proactive and we will also continue to do the same so that we can keep the impact as small as possible.

Thanks,

— Mr. Lehmunn

Encinitas Blvd. Director Message

I just want to remind everyone that the school will be closed Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. School will resume Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Early Re-enrollment

I hope that everyone has received their re-enrollment packets. If you have any questions or concerns, please fell free to contact me as we will only be offering the early re-enrollment until Feb. 3. After that, anyone who signs up for the 2012-13 school year will be paying the new rates. During this re-enrollment month, currently enrolled families are offered an opportunity to re-enroll for the next school year at the 2011-12 rates. We offer this early re-enrollment discount in order to encourage you to make your decision about next year before we open enrollment to new families on Feb. 3.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Conferences will be held Jan. 17-Jan. 31. Please sin up in your child’s classroom if you would like to have a conference.

Thanks,

— Ms. Safarik

ECDS Cookbook

Submit your favorite recipes now for the ECDS Cookbook, through email tobmstudio@cox.net or on a Flash Drive or CD to Susan Morone’s mailbox. We’re planning to have a Tasting Party afterschool on Wednesday, so make your favorite recipe and bring it in so everyone can have a fun time sampling these great recipes. Recipes must be submitted by next Friday, Jan. 20, and you can submit up to 3 recipes per family. You can also use the form to place pre-orders for the cookbook. We can’t wait to taste your delicious recipes!

Dine-Out at Rubios

Our PTO Dine-out for January is at Rubio’s, located at 252 N. El Camino Real in Encinitas. You can dine there for Lunch or Dinner, or take food home for your family and get a break from cooking! Kids love their Cheese Quesadilla plate, and Rubio’s signature Fish Tacos are delicous. All proceeds benefit our PTO “Teacher’s Fund”, which we use to provide a monthly lunch for the teachers on Dine-Out days. Look in your mailbox for the flyer next week, and be sure to bring the flyer to Rubio’s so the PTO will receive a percentage.
