Weekly Connections 12/09/2011

Dec 09 / 2011
We are very pleased to announce that the ECDS entry in the Encinitas Holiday Parade was awarded a total of 4 awards. We were awarded 1st place in the “Community” category, 2nd place in the “Most Unusual” category, and our students tied for 2nd place in the “Best Performance” category. Our float entry was awarded 3rd place in the “BEST Overall” category out of more than 80 parade entries, which is a huge award that acknowledges how special our parade entry was. Thanks to Susan Bachand-Morone (Float Designer), Brian Porterfield (Float Builder), and all of our families and students for making this the best Holiday Parade ever for Encinitas Country Day School!

Principal’s Message

The excitement is beginning to build among our Preschool thru 5th grades as they prepare for their

Holiday Performances. Be sure to check with your child’s teacher for the time of your child’s performance. Your children have spent a great deal of time working on these shows with Mrs. Crawford and Ms. Colby, and I am sure you will all get a show to remember. Also, don’t forget to bring in Kids-to-Kids gift packages to the Library by next Friday, Dec. 16, so your child can help other children this holiday season.

Daycare

Due to very low numbers in past years, the Manchester Ave. campus will NOT provide day care over the winter break. However, the Encinitas Blvd. campus will be open every weekday except for Dec. 26 and Dec. 30. The office at Manchester Ave. will be open except for Dec. 26 & 30.

Robotics Club ROBOHAWKS

Congratulations to the ECDS Robotics Club “RoboHawks” for their great performance last Sunday at their very first Robotics Competition, held at Legoland. They competed in 3 rounds, where each round was 2.5-minutes long with 4 teams on stage. Each table was displayed on a large screen, so everyone in the auditorium could see the robots as they ran through the challenges. Our team was one of 10 teams (out of over 50 teams competing) who were invited back for a “call-back” with the judges. They received very good marks in every area, including those involving character, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Team members include: Adam Kharsa, Christopher King, Dylan Besset, Skyler Yin, Owen Doyle, Parker Gross, Pasha Ghaemi, Patrick O’Mahony, and Bryce Thorpe. Special thanks go to the Robohawk’s coaches, Mrs. Doyle, Mrs. Yin, and Mrs. Besset. The entire team put in a great deal of time and effort, and the results certainly showed. Great job, and good luck in the spring competitions!

Show Dates for “School House Rock”

Mark your calendar! The ECDS Drama department’s new production, “School House Rock!” will show on Jan. 7, 8, 14, 15. The Saturday shows are at 6:00 pm and the Sunday shows are at 2:00 pm. Tickets go on sale next week, Dec. 12 – 16. This is a fantastic, high energy show! Thanks, — Mr. Lehmunn

Encinitas Blvd. Director Message

I hope that everyone is staying nice and warm as we move through this chilly weather. A friendly reminder that next Friday, Dec. 16 will be the day for our Holiday Programs for each classroom. Monday, Dec. 19 will be the first day of Winter Break. The Kids-to-Kids holiday gift giving is a great way to get your child involved in the holiday spirit by bringing in a gift wrapped item to the Christmas Tree in your child’s classroom for donation to San Diego children in need. Your child can prepare a gift for a child their age, as well as some basic needs like clothing and hygiene items. Preparing this package can be a special time for your child to show appreciation for all that they have and develop compassion and caring that comes from helping others.

Winter Break Day Care

The daycare sign-up sheets are at the front desk. This will help prepare us for our staffing needs for the two weeks of winter break. We will be closing early on December 23 @ 3 PM. and the school will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Dec. 30.

Lost and Found

There will be a table by the front gate to the school entrance full of Lost and Found items. Please take the time to check for any lost items that may belong to you. All items not reclaimed will be donated to local charities after December 16. Thanks, — Ms. Safarik

ECDS Kids Korps Event – Cancelled

Due to the hectic holiday schedules on everyone’s calendar and low participation in the upcoming Kids Korps event, we have decided to cancel this Saturday’s Kids Korps Farm Gardening Project (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.). We will reschedule this event after the holidays. Wishing you the happiest of holidays and thanking you for your continuous support of Kids Korps. Leila Ghaemi, ECDS Kids Korps Chapter
